What is Restorative Yoga?

Restorative yoga is a restful practice that is all about slowing down. While comfortably resting, your body is boosting its immune system, releasing tightness in muscles and joints, repairing damaged tissue, balancing the nervous system, balancing brain function, reducing anxiety and mental stress. This class is an excellent and important addition to an active, demanding life and a great antidote to stress.  It is also of great benefit for anyone experiencing injury or illness, as it engages the body's natural healing systems. You will leave feeling deeply rested, calm, and rejuvenated.

Restorative yoga is a different experience than most other styles of yoga. All poses are done on the floor, supported by props so you can relax effortlessly, allowing your body to rest and mind to quiet.  You are guided through 4 or 5 poses during a one hour class, which includes breath work and meditations.  All levels welcome.

What is Yoga Nidra Meditation?

Yoga Nidra, often referred to as yogic sleep, is a guided mind-body meditation that takes you into an integrated, whole body awareness for effortless relaxation, and deep healing. In this state of relaxation, the body shifts into the parasympathetic nervous system, where natural healing systems are activated, breath and heart rate slow down, mind quiets, inner calm arises.  The parasympathetic nervous system works in opposition to the sympathetic nervous system, state that engages our flight-or-fight responses.

Yoga Nidra supports optimal health and well-being for everyone.  However, it is particularly beneficial for individuals who face a high level of chronic stress.  In addition, it is also helpful for people suffering from sleep deprivation, insomnia,  trauma, and mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

Yoga Nidra meditation can be experienced in any comfortable position, such as seated, lying down in bed, or on a yoga mat.  No yoga or meditation experience is needed, to enjoy the full benefits of Yoga Nidra.
